Peter Preaching in Solomon’s Portico to Jews

Peter Preaching in Solomon’s Portico to Jews

Acts 3:13-20
New King James Version (NKJV)

13 The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let Him go. 14 But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, 15 and killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses. 16 And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

17 “Yet now, brethren, I know that you did it in ignorance, as did also your rulers. 18 But those things which God foretold by the mouth of all His prophets, that the Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled. 19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, 20 and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before,

What is Repentance in this passage?

Before

Jews used to think :

  • Denied the Holy One and the Just, and
  • asked for a murderer to be granted to you,
  • 15 and killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses.

After

  • Accept the Holy One, and the Just
  • Accept Jesus is the Prince of Life

Changing your mind from Before to After is called Repentance

  • Repentance means Change of Mind.

Peter didn’t use “Repent” in Cornelius House

Peter didn’t use “Repent” in Cornelius House

Repentance to Life

  • In this below passage Repentance was not used

Acts 10:43-44
New King James Version (NKJV)

43 To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins.”

44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word.

Peter in Jerusalem regarding reaching to Gentiles

Acts 11:1-4
New King James Version (NKJV)

11 Now the apostles and brethren who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God. And when Peter came up to Jerusalem, those of the circumcision contended with him, saying, “You went in to uncircumcised men and ate with them!”

But Peter explained it to them in order from the beginning, saying:

Acts 11:15-18
New King James Version (NKJV)

15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning. 16 Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, ‘John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ 17 If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?”

18 When they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life.”

Many times in Gospel the word “Repentance” is not there.

Does that means Repentance is not happening?

  • Repentance means Metanoia, which means Change of Mind
  • Changing of Mind is still happening.

Jesus is the Bath who makes your clean

Jesus is the Bath who makes your clean
  • You don’t clean yourself before taking a bath

Bath makes you clean

  • Jesus makes you clean

John 13:9-11
New King James Version (NKJV)

Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!”

10 Jesus said to him, “He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.” 11 For He knew who would betray Him; therefore He said, “You are not all clean.”

Its not

Salvation

  • Its not You make yourself clean then you will be saved
  • Its not You make yourself clean then accept Jesus

Real Salvation

  • You first accept Jesus then Jesus will clean you
  • You will be cleansed after taking a bath
  • You don’t clean yourself before taking a bath

First Priority to See Jesus

First Priority to See Jesus

We are Born Blind

  • A Man Born Blind Receives Sight

John 9:1-7
New King James Version (NKJV)

Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him. I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day;the night is coming when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay.

And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing.

Jesus picked us up from the miry clay

Psalm 40:2
New King James Version (NKJV)

He also brought me up out of a horrible pit,
Out of the miry clay,
And set my feet upon a rock,
And established my steps.

Still we have clay in our Eyes

  • Wash it in the water
  • Word of God represents the water in Bible

First Priority to See Jesus

  • Our First Priority is to open our eyes to see more of Jesus

Righteousness which is of the Law

Righteousness which is of the Law
  • Righteousness which is of the Law = own righteousness = Self Righteousness
    • Self Righteousness is a reward
  • God’s Righteousness is a Gift

Romans 10:2-5
New King James Version (NKJV)

For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, “The man who does those things shall live by them.”[a]

When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”

Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.”Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
