Undeserved, unmerited favour of God

Forgiveness of sins

Ephesians 1:7
New King James Version (NKJV)

7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace

  • the forgiveness of sins, NOT according to our goodness
  • the forgiveness of sins, NOT according to our Obedience
  • the forgiveness of sins, NOT according to our Faithfulness
  • the forgiveness of sins, NOT according to our self control
  • the forgiveness of sins, NOT according to our non sinning character

John 1:17
New King James Version (NKJV)

17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

  • came : singular in Greek language
  • Grace and Truth are not different, they are the same
  • Singular : Single Person : Jesus Christ : Grace and Truth

Dominion over sin

Only way that sin cannot be dominion over us

Romans 6:14
New King James Version (NKJV)

14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

  • sin is NOT a verb
  • sin is a noun

Law says, do good –> get good : do bad –> get bad

Story of Israelites coming out from Egypt

Before 10 Commandments was given

BASED ON GOD’S FAITHFULNESS

  • Murmuring or complaining is a sin.
  • Israelites murmured before the 10 commandments were give
    • NO ONE DIED
    • Because of His Unmerited favour
    • Because God is faithful and because of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
  • They came out because of God’s faithfulness
  • They murmured before Red sea, Waters of Mara, for the Lack of food.
    • No one died
  • Because of God’s faithfulness, Read sea opened, waters of Mara became sweet after putting the tree inside ( tree represents cross ), Lack of food was satisfied by manna from Heaven
  • Even after they murmured,
    • God was with them during the day time as cloud, night time as fire. And also they were provided with water after Moses hit the rock
  • ALL THESE THINGS HAPPENED BEFORE GIVING THE 10 COMMANDMENTS

After 10 Commandments was given

BASED ON PEOPLE’S FAITHFULNESS

  • Israelites murmured after giving 10 Commandments
    • They were dead each time they murmured
  • Ten commandments was given in Exodus 20
  • On Exodus 19, Israelites were boasting on their Self Righteousness, as if all blessings were because of their own faithfulness,
    • So 10 Commandments was given
    • God immediately said to Moses, let the people of Israelites not come near Me

After Jesus Died on the Cross

  • Jesus has redeemed us from the 10 Commandments / Law
  • We started living “Before 10 commandments was given” life
  • Now BASED ON HIS FAITHFULNESS

Story of women found in Adultery

Theme

  • “Neither do I condemn you, go and sin no more ” – Jesus Christ
  • No condemnation was given first, that leads to sin no more.
  • Some churches have in reverse like : go and sin no more then we won’t condemn you

Story

  • When the women was caught in adultery, she was brought to Jesus to find fault with Jesus
  • Pharisees and Sadducee were telling the law of Moses to Jesus, as if such and such women should be stoned
  • Jesus knelt down and wrote on the ground with His own fingers
    • This instance happened inside the temple.
    • It was  a stony ground
    • Jesus was trying to explain the fact (depicting) that, He is the one who wrote the 10 commandments in Mount Sinai and gave it to Moses.
  • Jesus was keeping the law of Moses by saying if any of you were righteous, let him stone her first. One by one left
  • On the other side, Jesus could stone the women, but He didn’t.
  • Jesus demonstrated HIS Love and HIS faithfulness.

At that time, Jesus was the One who is going to receive the sin of the women on His body on the cross

Story of The Prodigal son

  • Jews tradition is to divide the inheritance only after fathers death, but the son was least bothered about that, considering that His father was dead ( Prodigal son has No love towards his father ), hence he asked for dividing his inheritance.
  • The son returned to the house, not because He understood the love of his Father, but because he is hungry
  • He is trying to prove His self righteousness by stating that he would like to be His servant rather than accepting His Father’s love and being His son
  • According the Jewish Law, the son has to be stoned for this sin. So for protecting him, his Father ran towards him
  • Even at the end, the son didn’t understand Father’s love, but the Father only ran towards him, hug him, kiss him, even after he would have smelled like a pig/swine. Shows the love of the Father in heaven.

Source of Good works

Romans 11:6
New King James Version (NKJV)

6 And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.

Ephesians 2:8-10

New King James Version (NKJV)

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Reverse Engineering Ephesians 2:8-10

  • Example: Following the river backwards to find it’s source
  • Good works <– not of works <– not of yourselves <– For by grace you have been saved through faith

Word “saved” in Greek

  • Saved, healed, protected
  • Also used in “The healing of the women with an issue of blood”

Mark 5:34
New King James Version (NKJV)

34 And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.”

Importance of Undeserved and Unmerited favour of God

  • Paul said “Grace be with you all” whenever he starts and finishes a book/letter. Shows the importance.
  • The word “Grace” was used by Paul to the most immoral church Corinthians and more un-scriptural church Galatians, 26 time altogether.

There is no condemnation

Romans 8:1
New King James Version (NKJV)

8 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

Don’t beat yourself

  • DON’T SAY “I should not have done that”

If you beat yourself, it’s a matter of time you will beat others : with words, actions

  • if you are hard on yourself, you will hard with others
  • if you don’t forgive yourself, you won’t have mind to forgive others
  • if you beat yourself, you will beat others
  • if you hurt yourself, you will hurt others

If you stop beating yourself, you set yourself free, and You are free to forgive others

  • Stop beating yourself, Jesus took all you beatings at the cross
  • Stop hurting yourself, Jesus was hurt for all your sins
  • Stop blaming yourself, Jesus took all punishments for your mistakes

By doing this you are honouring Jesus and for what He has done for you.

Speak and receive

Hebrews 9:22
New King James Version (NKJV)

22 And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.

Romans 3:21
New King James Version (NKJV)
God’s Righteousness Through Faith

21 But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets,

  • But now, : there was a time when they didn’t receive the righteousness of God
  • apart : righteousness of God is different from law

Romans 5:17
King James Version (KJV)

17 For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

  • receive : constant receiving ( active tense )
  • reign in life : reign in everything ( workplace, addiction, health..)
  • Even if you are sick don’t call that sickness.
  • God is a God who calls those things that are not as though they are and then they are
  • God saw darkness and said “Light be” and Light came
  • God saw a sea without creature and God said “let the sea bring-forth wales, fishes.. ” and there they were.
  • God made us in His image
  • So whatever you want, speak it and you will see it ( this is called faith )
  • Man is so fallen that he has to see before he speaks
  • God said ” you will have what you say “
  • So when man sees dark, he says “wow, so dark”, then it becomes darker
  • Because man is living in a place of non faith.
  • Place of faith is to walk like God and talk like God.
  • God saw Gideon who was trembling , an angel appeared and said ” mighty man of valor!”
  • Man saw a shepherd boy, but God called him a king
  • Jesus saw Simon. Simon means “read/hearing/listen..”. Jesus called his as Petros ( Peter ). You shall be a rock. Finally he end-up becoming a rock/pillar for the church.
  • God doesn’t see who you are in natural. He sees your potential and destiny by which he called you to.
  • We are definitely not an accident.

Judges 6:12
New King James Version (NKJV)

12 And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said to him, “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor!”

Matthew 17:1-13
New King James Version (NKJV)
Jesus Transfigured on the Mount

17 Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; 2 and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. 3 And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. 4 Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

5 While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” 6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid. 7 But Jesus came and touched them and said, “Arise, and do not be afraid.” 8 When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.

9 Now as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead.”

10 And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”

11 Jesus answered and said to them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming first and will restore all things. 12 But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise the Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands.” 13 Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist.

  • Hear HIM, not hear them ( Singular )
  • It’s day for the Son of God
  • Son choose to be a Servant
  • In Luke it says “He don’t know what he was saying”. He = Peter ( when he said about 3 tabernacles )
  • Bring Cloud is the Shekinah glory , same one which is in Holy of Hollies .
  • When 10 commandments was given in another mountain, there was dark cloud
  • Peter James and John means Stone replaced by God’s Grace
  • Moses face was shining with decreasing glory, where Jesus face was shining with greater glory.
  • Arise , is a passive voice in Greek ( Allow yourself to be lifted )

24 When they had come to Capernaum, those who received the temple tax came to Peter and said, “Does your Teacher not pay the temple tax?”

25 He said, “Yes.”

And when he had come into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from strangers?”

26 Peter said to Him, “From strangers.”

Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free.

  • sons = Jesus and we (we became sons in Jesus).
  • Temple tax by Moses
  • Strangers = Moses and people at that time
  • Reminder : Hear HIM, not hear them.

Matthew 17:27
New King James Version (NKJV)

27 Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you.

New King James Version (NKJV)

A Samaritan Village Rejects the Savior

51 Now it came to pass, when the time had come for Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem, 52 and sent messengers before His face. And as they went, they entered a village of the Samaritans, to prepare for Him. 53 But they did not receive Him, because His face was set for the journey to Jerusalem. 54 And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?”

55 But He turned and rebuked them, and said, You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. 56 For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them. And they went to another village.

  • Jesus did not rebuke the Samaritans who rejected Him
  • Jesus rebuked people with Moses and Elijah spirit
  • Matthew ends with Peter not learning the lesson ( Moses )
  • Luke ends with James and John not learning the lesson ( Elijah )

Understanding Spirit of the Lord

  • You do not know what manner of spirit you are of” : They are of the spirit of Elijah which is of Judgement. who is not of the spirit of Grace.
  • Peter: You are looking to the law, you are not looking to Grace.
  • They were zealous of the glory of God, motive is right. Right intentions but wrong promotions.
  • On glorifying Jesus, don’t promote law or prophets

Depart

  • Yelled at the People
  • No Patience
  • He was not able to reach the promise land at that time.

Departing of Elijah ( Discouragement )

  • He thought Jezebel women was greater than God
  • He was afraid of her than God

Departing of Jesus ( Accomplish )

Luke 9:31
New King James Version (NKJV)

31 who appeared in glory and spoke of His decease which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.

  • Didn’t talk about death overtaking
  • Accomplish means power over death. Jesus overtaking death
  • decease means exodus ( leaving/depart this world )

Where Moses and Elijah failed/discouraged, Jesus succeeded

Isaiah 42:1-4

The Servant of the Lord

42 “Behold! My Servant whom I uphold,
My Elect One in whom My soul delights!
I have put My Spirit upon Him;
He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles.
2 He will not cry out, nor raise His voice,
Nor cause His voice to be heard in the street.
3 A bruised reed He will not break,
And smoking flax He will not quench;
He will bring forth justice for truth.
4 He will not fail (Moses) nor be discouraged (Elijah),
Till He has established justice in the earth;
And the coastlands shall wait for His law.”

  • Before the crown He has to go down and suffer on the other mountain ( Hermon to Golgotha )
  • Before they can have three bulls there must be three crosses on another mountain ( this LINE IS NOT CLEAR )
  • Before he flank in glory by Elijah and Moses, he must be flank among another mountain Golgotha by two thieves in shame

The Trustworthy Prophetic Word

16 For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 17 For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” 18 And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.

Their young ones shall lie down together;
And the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
8 The nursing child shall play by the cobra’s hole,
And the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper’s den.
9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain,
For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord
As the waters cover the sea.
