“Fear of God” in New Testament

Romans 8:15

New International Version (NIV)

15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”

Above Verse, In Its context,

  • fear again, refers to the “Fear of God” in the Old Testament (Old Covenant) in its context
  • Old Covenant “Fear of God” make you slaves (keep you under bondage)
  • Once after the New Covenant, its all about God being our Father , God being our Daddy (Abba in Hebrew and Aramaic)
  • We have received the Spirit of sonship

Romans 8:15

New King James Version (NKJV)

15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

spirit of bondage = Old Testament Fear of God

Spirit of adoption = New Testament sonship
